Amalfi Coast

The famous Amalfi Coast has been selected as one of the 10 “Paradise Found” by National Geographic Traveller in their “50 places in the world one should visit during a lifetime.

The magazine says: “The coast line around Amalfi is quite simply breathtaking. Cliffs plunge steeply into the azure sea with picturesque villages perched on their rocky sides, some of which until recently, were only accessible by boat. The views out across the Mediterranean Sea are stunning and this piece of coastline can quite rightly justify its claim to be one of the most scenic stretches in the world.”

Protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site the Amalfi Coast has kept its natural charm and beauty with breathtaking landscape, ancient towns untouched by modern architecture, natural diversity, excellent restaurants, very friendly people and the always present deep blue Mediterranean sea.

Amalfi Coast

It comes as no surprise that the Amalfi Coast is included as one of the world’s 50 greatest drives in a ranking by National Geographic. The Amalfi Coast is deemed by UNESCO ” an outstanding example of a Mediterranean landscape, with exceptional cultural and natural scenic values” and the coast was awarded a coveted spot on the World Heritage list in 1997.

The Amalfi Coast is regarded by many as the world’s most beautiful stretches of coast. It is a beautiful 50 kilometres stretch of mountainous coastline situated on the Sorrento peninsula between Sorrento and Salerno, just south of Naples, in the region of Campania. This coastline is dotted with small picturesque villages and towns stacked precariously on steep, pale rocky cliffs plunging sheer into the Mediterranean Sea.

The coast is known for its illustrious visitors – British aristocrats; popes; movie stars from Greta Garbo to Paul Newman, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie; artists like Klee, Picasso and Cocteau; dancers Rudolf Nureyev and Margot Fonteyn; and famous writers including John Steinbeck, André Gide, E.M. Forster, D.H. Lawrence and Gore Vidal.

Amalfi’s dramatic landscape, with its tightly packed towns clinging to the cliffs, limits new building and makes existing properties very desirable – and less vulnerable to any downward pressure on prices.
